NOTD: Spring Pastels!

In an attempt to make Spring arrive sooner (it was snowing earlier today here, I wasn't pleased), I painted my nails a bunch of pastel cream shades, colours that make me think of eggs and bunnies and chicks and chocolate and easter grass. I'm rather pleased with the outcome, tell me what you think!

Anyone else dying for spring to start? I just want to change out of my winter jacket! The only pastel shade I'm missing is an orange, anyone have any suggestions for a pastel orange cream polish? :D

NOTD: Eyeko Vintage Polish

The last of my Eyeko polishes I ordered, Vintage Polish for Elegant Nails, is a slightly dusty mint green. It's lovely but I'm not really digging it for this time of the year, I'm sure I'll like it more when spring comes around. Shown is 2-3 coats depending on the nail, and I had some dragging issues with the polish application. Not nearly as bad as Rain was but not great either. 

I'm on my third day of wear now and it's going well no chips, some tip wear but that's normal. It's a lovely cream but I'm feeling a shimmer urge so I'll probably change it tomorrow after my paper for university is done (I've barely started, so things will be interesting tonight!).

NOTD: Eyeko Pastel and Revlon Cuticle Remover Mini Review

Pastel Polish by Eyeko was one of the best yet by the brand. It's new out and this light baby blue really makes me look tanned! A lovely colour for any time of the year! If you look closely in the picture near the light reflection on the bottle you'll see the faintest shimmer of medium blue. This is not a trick of the light! This polish has a truly lovely iridescence running through it making it much more awesome than the average baby blue cream.

This polish applied better than the others and though shown is two coats certain spots could have done better with three. I got barely any tip wear until about two days later and the polish lasted until I took it off after five days. Needless to say this "Nice Nails" polish impressed me!

Sprite Rating: 8/10- Needs three coats really and there isn't much in the bottle but it's a great unique colour.

I just bought this at my local Zellars because my cuticles are always in bad condition and it was bothering me. I hate knowing people are out there looking at my polish swatches going "Sheesh, her cuticles are a mess! I can't believe she calls herself a cosmetics blogger!" Thus I decided I would try the cuticle remover by Revlon. It doesn't really remove your cuticles so much as allow them to easily to be pushed back with an orange stick (or in my case my thumb nails!). I did notice my second cuticles or the really thin layer of skin that grows beneath the main cuticle went away with some rubbing and a couple applications of this stuff. I had to apply about four coats to my cuticles and wait a bit to notice a softening but as this stuff is really quite thin that's alright with me, especially as it wasn't too expensive. Overall I would say it helps but it isn't a miracle worker by any means. It didn't really have a strong scent that I noticed so that's a plus.

Sprite Rating: 6/10- Need quite a bit to get it to work and it doesn't do a whole bunch but it does work to a small extent and I'm still glad I got it.

Halloween Look! (and some extra Halloween items!)

Happy All Hallows Eve everyone!

One of my most favourite times of the year, when the veil between life and death thins and we dress up to confuse the demons who are up to no good! I've got my current vampy manicure, my make-up look for my costume, the pumpkins me and my mom did and the spiderweb cupcakes we made. Lots of spooky goodness in this post!

I painted my nails first with my base coat Gelous then two coats of Vampira by Eyeko. Then I took painters tape and taped across so only the tips showed and used Sephora OPI's Sample Sale for blood red tips on a very blood splattered and gothic looking nail design.

Here's my vampire look! My first time using false eyelashes I had to cut them in half to get them to stick on okay but overall I'm quite pleased.

NOTD: Eyeko Indigo

Eyeko's Indigo Polish for Sultry nails is a truly lovely colour. Blueberry in colour (fondly known by some as a blurple) this polish is dark blue with purple undertones. It also has a fine medium-blue shimmer though out which makes it gorgeous to look at (distractingly so this morning through my midterm!). I'm sure there are dupes out there but I don't know of any, and I certainly don't own any! I love the soothing gem-like quality of this colour.

This seems to have a better formula than Eyeko's Rain, thankfully, but it was still a pain to deal with. I needed 2 - 3 coats depending on the nail and it dragged and had patchiness problems. It also didn't hold up too well to chipping showing tip wear within the day and chipping within two days (with both Gelous base coat and China Glaze Top Coat) which was disappointing. However, since it wasn't a miserable experience applying it and I love the colour I will continue to wear it on a semi-regular basis this season.

Eyeko Order Disappointment

Over a month ago now I finally decided to cave and order some Eyeko polishes as they looked like nice quality polishes from a smallish brand with a cute edge that was also cruelty-free. I finally received my order (over a month later) this last week.

I've not tried the polishes yet (though I'll be doing reviews for that in the coming week) but what I am disappointed in is the Eyeko customer service. Eyeko basically scribbled on the customs sticker for my order as you can see above. Because of this the Canadian government read this scribble as 40 british pounds and said that my order was worth $64.84 Canadian dollars, instead of the $29 odd I paid for the polishes and the shipping. So, I got charged an extra

$18.19. That is almost twenty dollars, and without shipping would pay for the whole bloody order a second time! Even worse was Eyeko's responses to me about their mistake on the customs form.

as you can see in your declaration, the amount that was declared was £10, not £60. Also, the government should have charged you for the value of your order, as it is stated in your receipt inside your packet, not £60.

I am sorry to hear that you've been over taxed, but it is not our fault and mainly the Canadian government decision.

They've basically said I was a liar despite sending them multiple pictures as proof that I'm not. And seriously, what is this about the government looking at my receipt inside my package? The government is supposed to open up my mail now is it? I am seriously disappointed and though I will review the polishes I won't be buying from them again. To me this is not the way to do costumer service.

Bambi Lashes

Like many other beauty bloggers out there, I would love to find a mascara that would give me the elusive and highly sought after 'Bambi Lashes'. Though for everyday, I adore Clinique Lash Power for it's durability, smudgelessness and look, once in a while I still yearn for this. Why? some may ask. By the end of this I'm fairly sure I'll turn you into a believer, if not just allowing the illumination of understanding to shine upon you.

Bambi, like all fawns, has the wonderful and unattainable thick, long, and fluttery lashes women want. They are glossy, they are long, they are thick, they frame the eye making it look larger and they manage to look dramatic, and innocent at the same time. And somehow, they also achieve the feat of not looking ridiculous either. These are the type of lashes meant for batting adorably at your victim of choice, because somehow, little hairs sticking out from near our eyeballs can cause catastrophic events. 

Above, if you look closely is an excellent example of "doe eyes" as seen on Bambi's mother. Thick, long lashes on a slightly hooded sultry eye. Yes, I do realize I am talking about a cartoon deer, but this seems to be a running theme of Disney movies. Thus, the perfect ideal of feminine lashes was implanted in the majority of society's brains at an early age.

So, how do you achieve Bambi lashes you ask? The easiest way to achieve this is by finding some nice false lashes (either stick or glue on ones) that achieve the effect. Below, however, is a list of what myself, and others found to be the best mascara to become baby deer eyed.

I've not tried all these myself, so I cannot guarantee anything specific (except the Clinique Long Pretty Lashes I remember being impressed by that one). How about anyone else, what is your favourite mascara? Any particular one you've tried that gives this effect?

Random Fact: The poisonous plant Belladonna is named thus due to the widening of the irises in the eyes of the person who ingested it. This gives them the "wide-eyed innocent" look of young girls, before they die due to the toxins.
