Autumn Favourites

Firstly, I'd like to apologize for my lack of updates. Right now it feels like the world is falling down around my ears and I'm quite stressed just trying to keep things running. Anyways, here are some of the products and colours I just love to use in the fall. Autumn is my favourite season by far and it really shows when you look at where my shade preferences are seen. Not all the things mentioned were pictured and I apologize for the craptastic photo, I ran out of daylight and was using my iphone.

As you can tell I'm huge into sultry eyes and toned down lips or red lips and toned down eyes. I love dark jewel tones for Autumn and it's the only time of year I wear orange. I also included in the photo a pair of earrings I'm fond of especially this time of year. Here are some other quick shots of some of the items.

Mac Me Over Midnight Blues Fluidline~ Review

Midnight Blues fluidline is probably the hardest of the four fluidlines in this Mac Me Over collection to find. It was the first to sell out on the American Mac website and the Canadian Mac website didn't receive any at all at their warehouse. I got really lucky and my sister stopped by a Mac store on the day of the release (and despite a sales assistant trying to sell her the WRONG product), received this gel liner.

You can see my review for Mac Rich Ground Fluidline here, which is a fantastic product and what I'll be comparing this to, as Rich Ground really is perfection. But before I'll tell you about whether Midnight Blues lives up to the standard Rich Ground set, here's some photos of Midnight Blues.
Bottom

Mac described Midnight Blues as a Blackened Blue, but it really isn't. In some lights it looks like a navy with a faint shimmer, and in others it looks like a dark blue teal shade. Other times it can look sort of Indigo. On the lid it shows more blue but the other colour effects can show up still there. Here are the swatches:
L: 3 layers, R: 1 swipe
L: 3 layers, R: 1 swipe
Midnight Blues is a little less pigmented than what I hoped it would be, needing two swipes to show opaque on my eyes. However, like my previous fluidline it is still easy to apply and doesn't irritate my eyes. It lasts half decently on my waterline, not quite as well as Rich Ground but better than all my other liner options.
I am glad it shows up mostly blue on because I really didn't want a teal shade (nothing against teal, I've just been looking for a dark blue liner for a while now).

The shade does stain my brush after use, just thought I should mention this. As always Fluidlines cost $15 USD, or $18 CND (plus tax ends up being about $20 CND- quite expensive really. I hate that Mac keeps increasing their prices).

The trick to keeping your fluidlines creamy for long periods of time is to store them upside-down. My Rich Ground liner is still as easy to apply as when I first bought it because I always store it like this.

Overall, I do like Midnight Blues fluidline. Wish it had less green in it but it is a great gel liner and a staple I think in my stash. Plus with how little you need it will last me awhile.

Sprite Rating: 8/10- not quite what I was after in that I was hoping it would be slightly more pigmented and not have the green tinge it has, but on the lid thankfully this dies down. Still, not how it was described.

Would I Buy it Again? Compared to all the other dark blue liners on the market- I'd be tempted to try a Bobbi Brown gel liner in a dark shimmery blue if that colour was available just so I could get the true "Midnight Blue" colour (if it was a better colour match only though) but since this one does perform well I would most likely buy it again, yes.

Both Dark Envy and Dark Diversion are on their way to me so their (most likely joined) review will be when I get my hands on them. Have a great night!

New things happening at Hebridean Sprite Beauty

Hey everyone just a quick update on things here on Hebridean Sprite Beauty. I've succumbed to Twitter, so you can follow and talk to me there under HebrideanSprite. I've also added some tabs at the top. A general home tab which will take you back to the main page, a contact me one which just moved the contact information and a Desires page which are items that have caught my interest that I'll change up every once in a while and why I'm interested in them in the first place. I may or may not add a blog sale page at some point depending on my poll in the right hand column. I'll probably move the information posts up too sometime today or tomorrow.

You may also have noticed that I've widened the reading portion of the posts. This is so I can show you larger pictures, so I'm hoping this is a good change. If you like it or dislike it let me know so I can improve the blog.

Anyways, hope you all are having a great Thrusday. I should have some exciting posts coming in the next few days such as a long overdue Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy review and Mac fluidlines from the new Mac Me Over collection which releases in stores today. I should also be  getting my Haus of Gloi stuff soon. *is excited*

Sephora Smoky Waterproof Cream Liners Swatches

Recently during one of my trips to Sephora I noticed that they had a variety of cream liner pots and so I took the opportunity to swatch them. I was actually impressed with my limited exposure to their formula- a fairly dry cream that seemed to set and stay well (took a quite a bit of scrubbing to get them off! Especially the black). Some of these are more of a matte finish while others have a beautiful shimmer to them.

There are eight shades, I've listed them, their finishes and their names below. :D

  • Must Have, a matte dark black
  • Made in Manhattan, a dark smoky shimmery grey
  • Cafe a super dark matte brown
  • Statue Bronze, a shimmery true bronze shade
  • Grass is Greener, a shimmery dark slightly olive grass green
  • Electric Teal, a shimmery bright electric blue
  • The Deep End, A bright matte royal blue
  • Bewitch Me, an amazing shimmery red plum (with red shimmer!)

On to the swatches!
T-B: Must Have, Electric Teal, Bewitch Me, Made in Manhattan, The Deep End, Grass is Greener, Statue Bronze, Cafe
T-B: The Deep End, Grass is Greener, Statue Bronze, Cafe

T-B: Must Have, Electric Teal, Bewitch Me, Made in Manhattan, Deep End and Grass is Greener
I apologize that the swatches aren't the best and the pictures are a bit off- not only was I in a rush, I didn't start swatching expecting to actually photograph these for you guys. In the end I decided that these were too good and intense to pass up. In Canada they cost $13 dollars, but in the USA they'll be less. I was really tempted to get Bewitch Me, as it would totally be a colour to bring out green in anyones eyes. I also love the shimmer in it! If I get one I'll certainly do a review.

New York Color Blushable Creme Stick in Big Apple ~ Review

Today's review is on my New york Color Blushable Creme Stick in the shade Big Apple Blush. It's a berry pink cream blush in stick form that comes with a ton of product for hardly anything at most drugstores (in Canada- Rexall, Walmart and some others; in the USA- Target, Walmart, and others I'm sure I'm missing). These blushes are full of pigmentation and come in 6 shades in the permanent range.
Look how much you get!
Although the packaging is cheap plastic, I find it quite sturdy and easy to work with. There is a nice twist-up/down mechanism and a clear top so you can see the shade that matches the outer plastic in colour. I think the packaging is great if you're on the go alot or travelling as the cylinder shape makes it easy to stick in a purse.
Two layers (heavy swatch so you could really see the colour)

Heavy swatch blended out
You only need the smallest dabs on your cheek to get all the colour you'd need. I dab about two half dabs on my cheeks each straight from the stick then blend with my fingers. This blush is really easy to blend and looks like a natural flush on my cheeks. I also adore that these are cream to powder so it never feels sticky or tacky or wet at all. In fact when I wear this, just like my Nars Penny Lane cream blush I can't feel anything on my cheeks throughout the day. This doesn't last as long on as my Nars Penny Lane blush but considering the price and feel it's certainly up to par! This colour does have some shimmer to it but nothing outrageous- I can't see it when I apply it to my cheeks, but I have heard about some of the others shades having a little too much shimmer so something to keep in mind.

Overall I think these Creme Blushsticks are little hidden drugstore gems, and I may have to pick up some more shades. The most popular of the shades is a more yellow-based pink called Plaza Pink but there is also Urban Spice (a bronzer), South Street Seashell (a browned coral shade), Mauvin Uptown (a dirty mauve) and Berry New Yorker (a browned red). I think this colour range is great because it definitely has a couple shades that would work for all skin tones and some that would look best on specific ones too.

Sprite Rating: 8/10- Lost one point for cheapy looking packaging and one for not being long wearing enough to last all day.

Would I buy this again? Yes!!!! I'm already debating another shade! :D

Please Note: New york Color is a Cruelty Free brand, but the company that owns it as far as I can tell is not Cruelty-Free. There are a ton of companies like this out there though, so I take what I can get, especially with large brands such as these.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Shadow Pencil~ Swatches and First Impression

Makeup by Urban Decay at ShopStyle

I don't know if you've heard but Urban Decay recently released their new Cream Eyeshadow Pencil products called 24/7 Glide On Shadow Pencils, after their famous 24/7 pencil liners. Like the liners these are super pigmented, creamy, soft, lovely eyeshadow pencils. Unfortunately you have to sharpen them, they don't turn up via a mechanism at the bottom (they should!) but I got a chance to swatch them and they were as great as expected from Urban Decay, super fun colours in vivid hues and awesome rich pigmentation. Here are the swatches!
All 12 shades!
There are twelve awesome shades some with slight duochrome, some almost matte, some with glitter and all great pigmentation! Plus if you like glitter I think this would be the way to go as you don't have to worry about glitter fallout with the creamy shadow base holding it.
Top L-R: Clash, Clinic
Bottom L-R: Narc, Midnight Cowboy
Clash- Bright Turquoise with Silver Sparkle
Clinic- Emerald Green with Silver Sparkle
Narc- Mossy Green
Midnight Cowboy- Beige with Silver Sparkle
Top L-R: Rehab, Mercury
Middle L-R: Wasteland, Barracuda
Bottom L-R: Clash, Clinic
Rehab- Taupe
Mercury- Gunmetal (Grey)
Wasteland- Dark Brown
Barracuda- Black with Silver Sparkle
Top L-R: Sin, Lit
Middle L-R: Delinquent, Morphine
Bottom: Rehab, Mercury
Sin- (Pink) Champagne
Lit- Golden Bronze
Delinquent- Dark Purple with Bright Purple Sparkle
Morphine- Light Purple with Pale Blue Shift

So what do you think? I love the look of these and just from swatching I can tell you these take scrubbing and make-up remover to get off! I'm especially interested in Clinic, Delinquent, Mercury (nicer in real life than in my photos!), Morphine and Sin. What about you, which ones do you like the look of? They retail for $20 USD.

Ten Beauty Products I Can't Live Without!

Mascara by Blinc at ShopStyle

1. Blinc tubing Mascara in Black
I adore this mascara. It's the perfect easy to remove tubing mascara that doesn't smudge or run or flake. You can read my full Review Here. :D

Beauty Tools by clarisonic at ShopStyle

2. Clarisonic Mia
I can't live without my Clarisonic Mia. Although mine is the white one, if the purple had been available when I bought mine I would have chosen that colour! This helps my acne so much and it really helps clean deep into pores gently. My review on this is here :D.

Face Cleansers by Estee Lauder at ShopStyle

3. Estee Lauder Double Wear Liquid Foundation (Shade Shell)
Although I've been using the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light foundation lately, I finally got my hands on the Double Wear foundation in my correct shade. This foundation is great, matte finish, lasts all day and covers well. My review here!

Loose Powder by M·A·C at ShopStyle

4. Mac Prep and Prime Transparent Finishing Powder
This is my favourite setting powder. I've tried quite a few others such as MUFE HD and Laura Mercier's secret finishing powder but this is the best. It really gives a soft focus effect when I use it with my mini kabuki, blurring the look of my pores until they're almost gone. I've finally done a review for this here.

Eye Shadow by Too Faced at ShopStyle

5. Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Too Faced Shadow Insurance is my Holy Grail eyeshadow primer. It lasts all day for me and prevents creasing as well as feeling nice on and intensifying shadows a bit. Check out my review here!

Face Concealer by TheBalm at ShopStyle

6. TheBalm TimeBalm Concealer in Lighter than Light
The best undereye concealer I've tried this is creamy the perfect brightening shade and covers wonderfully. The only downside is that it doesn't work well over dry skin at all. I also like how inexpensive it is for the amount of product and how there is Vitamin E in it as well. Here's my review! :D

Nail Treatments by Ulta at ShopStyle

7. Nail Tek II Intensive Therapy
This stuff has saved my nails big time! From weak splitting nails that couldn't grow to strong healthy ones this as a base coat has transformed my nails. Another plus was that it was quick too! Read about my experience with it here!

Nail Polish by China Glaze at ShopStyle

8. China Glaze Fast Forward Top Coat
I don't know about anyone else but I always always ALWAYS mess up my manicure before it dries unless I have a quick dry top coat and this one by China Glaze is the best! Really quick drying and I actually don't mind the sweet smell to it. As with all top coats it gets a bit thick after awhile but some polish thinner takes care of that. (Review to come)

Face Blush by NARS at ShopStyle

9. Nars Penny Lane Cream Blush
I just got this blush not too long ago and I adore it! I can't see myself without this anymore as it lasts all day (only blush I've had that does) and the finish is amazing! Check out my full review here!

Brushes & Applicators Sets by Ulta at ShopStyle

10. Eco Tools Brushes
The best brushes out there in my opinion. Cheap, Eco friendly, creulty-free, easy to clean, and super soft! There is nothing bad about these brushes except maybe the fact that the range is sort of limited! Full review of them here! The picture above is one of the sets of brushes I've bought and use almost daily.

So that's it! I saw this tag and thought it would be a good fun post to do. I have a couple other posts in the works so more coming soonish! Hope you enjoyed!
